SpaceLab seeks new Professor of Space Studies

The University of Cape Town is seeking an experienced space professional to provide research and academic leadership to the University’s Space Studies programme. The UCT SpaceLab, located within the Department of Electrical Engineering, is a platform for multi-disciplinary postgraduate training in space science and technology and its applications. The lab has a diverse, international cohort of students and partnerships with a growing number of local and international academic, space agency and industry partners. The lab currently offers a multi-disciplinary, part-coursework, part-research MPhil in Space Studies programme that is designed to accommodate working professionals and the only programme of its kind on the African continent. It also offers opportunities for doctoral studies. The Department would like to appoint a senior, full-time academic in the field of Space Studies to provide leadership and research-led teaching in the SpaceLab and to act as the Convener of the MPhil in Space Studies Programme. The incumbent will be expected to develop and maintain ties with colleagues in the Department and Faculty to ensure that the space studies programme is fully integrated into the academic and research activities of the Department and Faculty. In particular, we would like close alignment between space studies and activities in radar and remote sensing.The position is being offered as a fixed-term,five-year contract post at the Associate Professor or Professor level.
